The Nutrition Center has been recommending eating a handful of nuts every day for some time, but more and more people are now becoming aware of their many benefits. Nuts also help combat cognitive decline in older people. Peanuts, which are botanically legumes, seem to be particularly healthy.
Scientists examined 4,800 Chinese people aged 55 and older. More than 17 percent of them ate nuts regularly. According to the scientists, a handful of nuts per day improved cognitive processes by up to 60 percent. More specifically, nuts are said to improve your memory and have a positive effect on your thinking skills.
“Nuts are rich in healthy fats, proteins, iron and foods that lower bad cholesterol and promote cognitive health,” said lead researcher Ming Li. “We have not found a miraculous solution to cognitive decline. But this shows that what you eat has a big impact on your mental health.”
It has long been claimed that peanuts have anti-inflammatory effects and are high in antioxidants. This combination is intended to counteract cognitive decline.
