Poland’s new Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Sekerski has promised farmers that the government will meet some of their demands, but implementation will take more time.
Protest coordinator Roman Kondrow told the PAP news agency on Wednesday that they had not received written confirmation that their demands would be met, which is why the protests were continuing. Today, in the presence of journalists in Medika, Kondrow repeated the demand for a written commitment. “If an agreement is signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and the farmers, we will stop the protest as soon as possible,” promised Kondrow.
Polish truck drivers have been protesting for several weeks at three other border points on the Polish border with Ukraine. They are protesting against the European Union’s (EU) decision to scrap the permit system following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The relief was supposed to end in June, but was extended for another year. Polish airlines believe that the cancellation of the licensing regime has led to price cuts by Ukrainian competitors, which has significantly affected their revenues.
