The price on the open market is again too high, but the device can be successful with service providers because it looks good and lasts a long time.
Introduction, box, outside
This is the third Honor Magic Lite we’ve had in the last three years, and it’s the best yet. Let’s say it would be strange if the functionality was limited, but we’ve seen it before. What hasn’t changed is the look and prices. The recommended consumer price of the phone will be HUF 159,990, which is extremely high this year for a device that is closer to the lower end of the mid-range category. So I will shoot it in advance, it is not recommended to put it at the end of the test, but that does not mean that the Honor Magic 6 Lite (aka Magic6 Lite) is a bad device. And that doesn’t mean that not a single piece of it will find a home in Hungary and the customer won’t use it with satisfaction.

The introduction to last year’s Magic 5 Lite test detailed Honor’s strategy to gain market share by selling through operators, and the 2023 year-end numbers show they are succeeding. So the Magic 6 Lite is expected to be available in all possible price packages with even significant discounts depending on the subscription, although – if it repeats the story of its predecessor – the price will already be below a hundred thousand forints even with the cheapest packages until Christmas. And the huge 6.78-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display, curved at the edges, catches the eye of the interested party. The resolution of 1200 x 2652 pixels (429 ppi) ensures sharp images, and the panel can also handle 120 Hz At 60 Hz, there is an optical fingerprint reader hidden in the display, although it is somewhat uncomfortably low compared to the dimensions of the phone. The front camera is punched out in the middle of the display and has 2D facial recognition to unlock the screen.

The colors shown by the display cover the DCI-P3 scale and the settings include dark mode, e-book mode, eye protection and sleep support mode. The latter automatically adjust the color temperature of the display based on usage behavior and the time, so that, for example, they automatically switch to a warmer color in the evening and reduce the brightness. The PWM value is 1920 Hz, which is relatively high but can still cause headaches for sensitive people. There is an option to adjust the saturation (vivid or normal colors) and it is also possible to manually adjust the color temperature of the display. In addition, the display size and shape of the icons can of course be varied and the system interface can also be designed thematically.

How do we measure the display?
[+]
The 163.6 x 75.5 x 8 mm case is thin at 185 grams and pleasantly light for its size, the back is dominated by the massive Matrix AI Vision Camera system, which has three sensors and an LED flash in a huge black one Ring hides. The absolute plus point of the design is that the phone does not wobble even when placed on a flat surface without the case. Speaking of the case: Unfortunately, the box only contains a Type-C charging cable with a USB-A end, no power supply or charger, but the display is protected by a film in addition to the unspecified protective glass. The type of back cover varies depending on the color of the device, we had the orange model with a back cover made of vegan leather (artificial leather), while the back covers of the green and black versions are made of plastic. On the one hand, the faux leather back is something special because of its color, but on the other hand, it provides a great grip and hold on the phone and does not slip in your hand even without a case.

Bottom and top of the device [+]
If we look around the phone we will find roughly the same as all Honor mid-range models. At the bottom there is a SIM tray that holds a double nano-SIM, next to it there is a USB 2.0 Type-C port, a microphone and a media speaker. Wired charging of other devices from the 5300 mAh battery can be done via USB; there is no wireless charging. There is also no stereo speaker; only the speaker on the bottom of the case works when playing media; the voice speaker hidden in the very thin cover does not play. That’s bad at such a price level, if Motorola can solve stereo sound for less than 50,000 HUF, then Honor can’t be an insurmountable challenge either.

The left side of the phone frame is completely empty, only a microphone is visible at the top, and the power and volume buttons are located on the right edge. The infrared, 3.5mm port and notification LED are missing, the latter can be replaced by the AMOLED panel’s always alarm indicator. Honor promises a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits relative to the display, although we managed to get close to this, we didn’t reach it, but despite the moderately sunny late December and early January, reading the contents of the panel was not a problem outdoors.
