Pensioner Caterina Giovinazzová from the Italian town of Camporosso had her water and sewage bill read to her daughter-in-law. According to an incorrect calculation, the 88-year-old senior had to pay more than 15,000 euros (378,000 crowns). Upon hearing the news, she collapsed and later died in hospital. At the same time, she only had to pay 55 euros (1,360 crowns).
88-year-old pensioner Caterina Giovinazzova died in the Italian hospital in Sanremo due to an error in calculating the surcharge for water and sewage. According to the Italian version of Sky News, she had her daughter-in-law read her a letter containing the amount. When the woman found out that she only had to pay 15,339 euros (more than 378,000 crowns) for the period August to October, she collapsed.
From the town of Camporosso, where the woman lived, she was immediately taken to the Sanremo hospital. Unfortunately, Caterina took her last breath there on Christmas Day. It later emerged that the bank statement had been received by the bank on November 14th, which automatically sent the payment.

But it quickly became clear that the company that manages the Italian city’s water supply had made a huge accounting error. “The bill was calculated based on an incorrect reading based on the photo. Caterina Giovinazzova’s actual consumption was 55 euros. The amount already paid has been refunded,” the company said, according to the Corriere newspaper.
But simply admitting wrongdoing is not enough for the sons of the deceased senior citizen. They are supposedly demanding an explanation as to how such a situation could have arisen and want to find out who caused their mother’s death through a misjudgment.
