US Military Pauses Construction of Humanitarian Pier in Gaza
Soldiers and sailors are currently working on assembling a floating pier off the shore of Gaza, but the construction has hit a temporary pause due to forecasted high winds and sea swells, as reported by US Central Command.
The pause in construction was deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the personnel working on the partially constructed pier, which began last week. The construction site has now been relocated to the Port of Ashdod, one of Israel's main cargo ports north of Gaza.
Challenges and Progress
Despite the challenges posed by rough sea conditions, the US military remains committed to completing the Joint Logistics Over the Shore (JLOTS) system, which aims to provide essential aid to the population in Gaza. The system, once operational, could facilitate the delivery of up to 150 trucks per day.
Defense officials had initially hoped to have the JLOTS system fully operational by Friday, but adverse sea state conditions have delayed progress. Military divers are facing difficulties in securing and stabilizing the pier components due to the rough seas.
Future Operations
Once the pier system is operational, the US Army and Navy will closely monitor sea conditions to ensure the safety of personnel involved in aid delivery operations. The operation of the pier and causeway will be contingent on favorable weather conditions.
The Sagamore, a massive container ship contracted by US Transportation Command, is poised to ferry humanitarian aid from Cyprus to the pier once operations commence. Other aid groups are expected to follow suit in contracting cargo ships for aid transportation.
Aid Delivery
Aid shipments have already begun flowing into Cyprus for eventual delivery to Gaza through the maritime corridor. USAID administrator Samantha Power recently announced the imminent arrival of "500+ pallets of humanitarian aid" to address urgent needs in Gaza.
The US military's commitment to completing the humanitarian pier underscores its dedication to providing vital assistance to the population in Gaza, despite the challenges posed by inclement weather conditions.

2024-05-04 08:48:53 Is it possible for Jimmy Butler and Joel Embiid to reunite? The two superstars have worked together with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018-19 season and have a good relationship. This year, both the 76ers and the Miami Heat were eliminated in the first round and are facing adjustments and reorganizations. According to “The Athletic” senior reporter David Aldridge broke the news,The Heat may be facing a critical turning point in the Butler era (Tipping Point)if the two sides really part ways, he believes that the 76ers should strive for the return of “Master Chief”.

This year, the Heat only obtained the 8th seed through the play-offs, and were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the first round. The team only received low seeds for two consecutive years. Although they reached the championship game last year, it proved this It doesn’t mean that they have no chance to compete for the championship, but every time they enter the playoffs, it is “hell mode” difficulty, which is probably not a good sign. Butler led the Heat to the NBA championship twice and the conference finals once, but he had his own way of doing things. In the five seasons he joined the team, he never played more than 64 games. In fact, in He has not played more than 70 games since the 2016-17 season, which is also one of the reasons for the Heat’s unstable regular season record. ▲”Master Chief” Jimmy Butler is famous for doing things his own way, and the Heat’s culture is not very intolerant of individualism. (Photo/AP/Dazhi Image) “There have been suggestions this year that Butler and the Heat may part ways. Butler is known for doing things his own way, while the Heat have a culture that is less tolerant of individualism. While the Heat may not mind Butler making them feel a little uncomfortable as they pursue a championship, they also have their own culture and expectations. “The 76ers have not entered the Eastern Conference Finals for 23 consecutive years, and Embiid is also the only annual MVP who has not entered the Eastern Conference Finals. They can create more than $50 million in potential salary space this summer. If the Heat really intend to end the Butler era, Aldridge suggested that the 76ers could try to acquire the star. ▲The Philadelphia 76ers are out of the Eastern Conference Series of the NBA playoffs. Will the team find Jimmy Butler and Joel Embiid to cooperate this summer? (Photo / Associated Press / Dazhi Image) According to the “Miami Herald” report, Butler hopes to renew his contract with the Heat for another two years after the remaining two years of his current contract expires, which will bring him closer to the end of his entire contract. At 39 years old, will the Heat give him this “pension”? Put a question mark on it. The 76ers will make some positive adjustments this offseason. They have enough space to upgrade their wings. According to previous reports, Paul George and LeBron James may also be their targets. The Sixers have multiple future first-round picks, as well as their own 2024 pick, that they could add to the negotiating package if the Heat are willing to release him. Although multi-party trades are not as easy as before due to the new collective bargaining agreement rules that limit the trading operations of teams that have entered the second tier of tax lines, they are not impossible to achieve. Verstappen: “Surprised by pole.” Leclerc smiles: “I found the feeling straight away”
FORMULA 1
The three-time world champion criticizes himself, the Ferrari driver aims to challenge him in the Sprint on Saturday

“It seemed to me that the car was fine in free practice, then in qualifying I no longer had the same sensations: I did badly in SQ2, really terrible! Then in SQ3 I tried to go two tenths faster than the target time that I had on the dashboard but the track no longer offered grip. In short, the pole was a positive surprise, we have to investigate the causes of our problems, which fortunately others have also accused. In the race, however, the tires should stabilize and we should go well.” Max Verstappen he finds it a little difficult to see the glass as half full at the end of a complicated sprint qualifying, but then he says he is convinced that he can secure victory in the Sprint of the Miami GP.
At Ferrari,
Charles Leclerc closes with full satisfaction a Friday that started badly:
“I’m satisfied: qualifying was my weak point for two races in a row, then here I had to push hard straight away but
I quickly found the feeling and I worked well with the tires. It was also nice to silence all the negative rumors about me that have been circulating lately.”
Path in a certain sense reversed for his teammate
Carlos Sainz:
“There was a strange change in the behavior of the car between free practice and qualifying. I struggled to find grip and even to put the individual sectors of the same lap together.
I was having a great lap at the end but I ruined everything in the last corners. I’m certainly not happy but I hope to get everything back in order for the race.”
The balance of the Ferrari sprint qualification is entrusted to the Team Principal and General Manager of the Reds
Frederic Vasseur:
“It’s difficult to give a clear picture: we weren’t able to carry out a real long simulation with the soft and medium tyres. We mostly concentrated on the GP on Sunday but ultimately the Sprint race prepares for Sunday. We are quite satisfied, after what had happened in free practice
we didn’t expect Leclerc on the front row and then also
Sainz was on Charles’ pace until the last corner. Overall I would say very good for us: we try to
get off to a good start and then we’ll see how to best manage tire degradation.”
A bit of disappointment and a great desire to make up for it in the race
by Lando Norris cwho did not finalize the conditions for a very favorable day with pole:
“I pushed too much and made a couple of mistakes in turn one: from then on everything went wrong and
we were unable to realize our full potential. But we have a good pace, actually one of the best.”
