Midfielder Eiji Miyamoto (25), who joined the team permanently from J2 Iwaki, will play in J1 for the first time this season. At the Hiyagon camp in Okinawa, they try to learn more precise positioning and a reliable game with fewer mistakes.
Despite my high motivation to “do it,” my body doesn’t move the way I want it to. During his first J1 camp, he said, “There was a gap between my mind and my body…It was tough.” I cling desperately to high-intensity training.
Still, he said with a wink: “Niigata football has a good pace in ball movement and the quality is high in terms of decision-making and speed in intercepting the ball. He’s really fun to play.” Even in actual training, he isn’t shy, saying, “I even call Mr. Gomez (Horime) ‘Gome, Gome.’ The older players call for me and we can communicate smoothly.” He also seems to be adapting to the team.
In 2021, he joined Taiwaki, the then JFL. Over the course of three years he progressed to J3 and J2, opening the door to the coveted J1 level in his fourth year. “I’ve dreamed of playing in J1 since I was little. I was very lucky to have made it this far. Things are going so well,” he says modestly, but that’s because of his constant efforts.
My theme for the camp is: “I want to further refine my technical skills as a volunteer.” During training, he is inspired by the play of the volunteer team Shimada, Hoshi and Akiyama. “Everyone knows how to hold the ball and position themselves unconsciously. The one-touch technology is also precise. I would like to take up these aspects.” In particular about the star’s game, he said: “Yuji’s game is on a different level, about two players ahead. He makes fewer mistakes and has a feeling of stability. If the middle player makes too many mistakes, the game will collapse.” That’s why I want to reduce the number of mistakes. “Work hard.
“During training, coach Matsuhashi tells the players to “get into difficult positions”, so I want to try not to play “cheaply”, but not to be afraid of pressure and to show our skills.” In addition to that Conquering the ball, which is his weapon, he wants to secure a place in the starting line-up for the start of the season through error-free play.
