TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The closure of Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) Padang Pariaman, West Sumatra on Friday, December 5, 2024 has been extended until 10:00 p.m. WIB. This was announced by the head of Padang City Regional VI Airport Authority Office, Capt. Megi Hudi Helmiadi.
“The previous Notice For Airmen (NOTAM) was from 10:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. WIB, we have decided to extend it to 10:00 p.m. WIB,” he said when speaking at BIM Padang Pariaman of Tempo on Friday, January 5, 2023 was contacted.
Megi said the airport closure had been extended by six hours. The closure extension follows the rule that the NOTAM validity is only 6 hours.
He explained that this expansion was carried out using the volcanic ash distribution map prepared by VAAC Darwin, which still covers the BIM area of Padang Pariaman Regency. “We decided to extend it because we took into account the distribution of volcanic ash that still reaches the BIM area,” he said
Megi said VAAC Darwin forecasts would spread volcanic ash across the BIM area by 1:40 a.m. WIB on Saturday, January 6, 2024. “We see that the VAAC Darwin forecast is still long, estimated at 10 hours,” he said.

Apart from that, according to the results of the BMKG-BIM paper test dated January 5, 2023 at 5:20 p.m. WIB, the distribution of volcanic ash remains positive.
