Lucid Motors’ senior vice president of digital, Mike Bell, has stepped down from his role. The company announced in a statement on Monday that Bell, a former executive at Apple and Intel, is leaving “effective immediately” to explore other opportunities.
As part of the transition, Bell will continue to advise the company until mid-August. Lucid has also agreed to pay him a $125,000 consulting fee as part of his departure. Bell, who oversaw software development at Lucid, is exiting at a time when the company is facing challenges in maintaining steady demand for its luxury Air model while also ramping up production of its upcoming Gravity SUV.
Bell joined Lucid in 2021 after a brief consulting stint with the EV startup. Prior to that, he served as Rivian’s inaugural chief technology officer. With a background in mobile technology, Bell previously led Intel’s mobile division, played a key role in the launch of the Palm Pre, and spent close to two decades at Apple, where he contributed to the development of the iPhone. Lucid has appointed Derrick Carty, the company’s vice president of platform software and a former Apple executive, as Bell’s interim replacement.
Lucid disclosed Bell’s departure alongside its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, reporting a loss of $680 million on 1,967 deliveries of its luxury electric sedan.
