In the early 2010s, Neversoft, which was still operating as an independent studio at the time, also developed its own Call of Duty installment. The project hit a dead end, but now we can see a good two minutes of gameplay of the futuristic FPS.
In 2010 and 2011, Activision was heavily involved in the series production of Call of Duty. Encouraged by the success of the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series, the publisher had planned several similar subtitles, some of which could even have become a trilogy: the hallmarks of Future Warfare, Space Warfare, Secret Warfare, Advanced Warfare already were confiscated from the big toy factory. Of course, we are aware that, among the titles mentioned above, it was only 2014’s Advanced Warfare that finally saw the light of day, but the futuristic, often space-like elements later also appeared in 2016’s Infinite Warfare.
However, the other titles, especially Future Warfare, have not sunk into oblivion without a trace. At this time, Activision was rapidly expanding the number of studios developing the Call of Duty series, and Neversoft, the developers of the Tony Hawk games and Guitar Hero, were brought in to develop Future Warfare. We know very well that this project reached a dead end and Neversoftot was integrated into the team at Infinity Ward, but thanks to the video that has just been leaked, we have learned that the development of Future Warfare, or NX1, is progressing quite well at this point.
The It can be viewed on X in a long two-minute gameplay video It’s clear that one of the game’s missions would have taken place on the moon, with soldiers in spacesuits. According to the rumor, Neversoft has already prepared at least 2-3 campaign missions for the game and they have also made pretty good progress in the development of the multiplayer. The latter would have featured futuristic remakes of many audience-favorite titles. The names of the following cards came up:
- Afghan legacy
- Legacy Crash
- Legacy Terminal
- Bin Laden’s compound
- Gladiator attack
- Merc mode map
- BANK
As previously mentioned, Future Warfare and Neversoft’s independent Call of Duty development fell apart, but traces of the game can be found in the Call of Duty games released in the second half of the 2010s. And if NX1 or Future Warfare had seen the light of day, it would likely have left Call of Duty: Ghosts off the timeline, as Activision moved forward with development from 2013’s Infinity Ward after canceling the project.
