Summer Lee emerged victorious over Bhavini Patel in the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District, as reported by the Associated Press. With 98% of the votes counted on Wednesday morning, Lee secured just over 60% of the votes.
The race between Lee and Patel was one of the most fiercely contested battles on Tuesday's ballot. Lee, the incumbent, faced off against Patel, an Edgewood councilwoman, in a district encompassing Pittsburgh, the Mon Valley, parts of the South Hills, and Westmoreland County.
Lee's Vision and Victory
In her victory speech, Lee emphasized the importance of being a bold progressive in Western Pennsylvania, stating that the region serves as a blueprint for the nation. She expressed gratitude towards her team, supporters, and family, addressing criticisms of her style and views on various issues, including her stance on a ceasefire in Gaza. Lee reiterated her commitment to advocating for marginalized communities.
Furthermore, Lee highlighted the significance of unity within the Democratic Party, stressing the need for support across all wings of the party in the upcoming November elections. She emphasized the collective effort required to advance their agenda.
Patel's Response
Following her defeat, Patel took to social media to thank her supporters and expressed gratitude despite the loss. She acknowledged the challenges ahead and emphasized the ongoing work leading up to the November elections.
Pre-Election Insights
Prior to the election, Lee, Pennsylvania's first Black woman elected to Congress, reflected on the tough election battles she has faced throughout her career. She highlighted her history of challenging incumbents and reiterated her preparedness for such contests.
In contrast, Patel criticized Lee for allegedly aligning with an ultra-left-wing agenda, diverging from President Joe Biden's policies. She accused Lee of prioritizing progressive ideologies over the interests of the region, citing disagreements on Democratic bills.
General Election Outlook
With endorsements from prominent figures like Sens. Bob Casey and John Fetterman, Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato, Lee advances to the general election in November to face Republican James Hayes, who ran uncontested in the primary.

Erdoğan aide targets CHP mayor with fake Öcalan image
Wall English
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s chief adviser Oktay Saral has targeted the mayor of Adana’s Seyhan Mayor district, Oya Tekin, from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), with a fake photo.
On April 23, Saral posted an image on his social media account, depicting as if there was a photo of jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan hung on a wall at a pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party building while Tekin was visiting.
“If the scoundrel Oya Tekin, the Seyhan Mayor of the CHP, who makes a show by hanging a Turkish Republic sign (on the municipality building), sits in the office where the photo of the terrorist head is hanging, there is no need to say anything else. This is a clear picture of the CHP-PKK collaboration, not the CHP-DEM partnership!,” Saral accused while commenting on a photoshopped image.
In response, Tekin shared the original image “so that your immorality can be seen.”
“CHP municipalism serves without discriminating against anyone, know this. Remember that we honest people are braver than you liars. From now on, I hope you will not mislead the public with poorly intended montage photos. If they promise that they will be used for good purposes, we would welcome them to our municipality’s graphic design courses,” Tekin said.
Dear Chief Advisor!
1. I am sharing the original photo so that your immorality can be seen.
2. @everykesicinCHP Know that municipalism serves everyone without discrimination.
3. Remember, we honest people are braver than you liars.
4. From now on, I hope the aim is bad assembly… https://t.co/xtStPClrPW

Later, Saral deleted his post without apologizing. In another post, he did not take a step back, and said, “To visit any organization of a mentality that claims that they will erect statues of the ‘Head of Terrorist’, and even more, to ally with this mentality, is to sit in the shadow of the ‘Statue of the Head of Terrorist’ let alone sitting under the photo.”
I would like to point out about the discussions about the montage of the photo that is circulating on social media and news sites and that I shared from these sites; Visiting any organization of a mentality that claims to erect statues of the ‘Terrorist Head’ is even more…

During the 2023 election campaign period, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan displayed a montage video during a rally, depicting as if PKK executives were singing his opponent Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s election song.
The Turkish government and its allies have been building a discourse alienating opposition parties by accusing them of “aligning with terrorist organizations,” which heightened especially during the 2023 elections.
In 2022, the Turkish parliament passed the “disinformation law,” which carries a jail sentence of up to three years for anyone who spreads false or misleading information.

Elderly woman lost her life in a traffic accident in Paz de Ariporo – news
When he left a commercial establishment that he had attended to allegedly receive $3 million pesos that he demanded from the owner in order not to close it, he was captured by units of the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office and the military Gaula, the Fourth Police Inspector of Yopal, Jorge Enrique Monroy Child.
The facts derive from an investigation carried out by the 13th Prosecutor’s Office that investigates crimes against the Public Administration, and originates from the merchant’s complaint stating that the official would be demanding that sum of money from him to avoid the closure of his business establishment, after a verification visit carried out by the authorities, in which a summons had been imposed.
The merchant attended the Fourth Inspection to cancel the summons, and there the official’s offer to “collaborate” with him to avoid paying the summons and subsequent closure of the establishment would have arisen.
Apparently, the delivery of the money by the merchant was agreed upon, and when the Inspector went to the site he was captured by the authorities in flagrante delicto.
In this regard, the Mayor’s Office of Yopal issued a Communiqué to Public Opinion, where it rejects any irregular actions by its officials, such as the one presented to the Fourth Police Inspector.
The Inspector is charged with the crime of concussion by the investigating agency. The crime of concussion is committed when a public servant abuses the power given to him by his position and demands money, which does not correspond to him, to perform the functions that are part of his job.
Official Statement from the Mayor’s Office of Yopal
The Mayor’s Office of Yopal expresses its firm commitment to transparency, legality and respect for the rule of law in all areas of public administration. In this sense, we address the Yopaleña community in order to address an issue of relevance to the city.
Today, we have been informed about the capture of the Fourth Police Inspector, Jorge Enrique Monroy Niño, within the framework of an investigation carried out by the competent authorities.
It is important to highlight that the Mayor’s Office of Yopal categorically rejects any act that threatens institutional integrity and the trust of citizens in the institutions in charge of ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. In this sense, we reaffirm our commitment to fully collaborate with the judicial authorities and urge them to carry out the corresponding investigations with the diligence and timeliness that these sensitive facts warrant.
