Kochi – Minister MB Rajesh said that the Silver Line Verail project cannot be stopped if the Dakshina Railway believes so. The minister also criticized Southern Railway’s position on the Silver Line project as disappointing.
“The stand of Dakshina Railway against the Silver Line project should be seen in the context of the stand taken by BJP leaders against the project. It is disappointing that the land is not being made available for the project. If they believe that, the project cannot be stopped. The central government needs to change its stance on this matter,” said MB Rajesh.
The Southern Railway has submitted a report to the Central Railway Board saying that as per the current policy, not even an inch of land can be given away as it will hamper the future development and acceleration of rail transport in Kerala. According to the report, there was obstruction across the entire railway land claimed by K Rail from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod. The Silver Line, which runs temporarily from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur and then runs almost completely parallel to the railway line, requires 183 hectares of railway land.
In October, the railway authority had sought a report based on the survey of the railway site conducted by K Rail.
