She speaks four languages, comes from a large family (she has six siblings), and the whole world is fixated on Xena, the warrior princess. Originally it was only supposed to be a role in one of the episodes of the Hercules series, but the audience liked it and so the series was born, which was devoured by some in the nineties. Where did Lucy Lawless go then?
Xena, the warrior princess
The actress, originally from New Zealand, became world famous through the fantasy series “Xena”, which ran in cinemas in her home country from 1995 to 2000. Renee O’Connor, who played her friend Gabrielle, remained friends and was said to be like sisters. Did you know that the characters Xena and Gabrielle had more than just a friendly relationship? This wasn’t explicitly stated in the series, nor was it done at the time, but the lead actress confirmed in one of the interviews a few years ago that the characters in the plot were in love with each other, just as some viewers understood it.
She not only made actress Xena famous, but also found the love of her life thanks to her. She has been married to Robert Tapert, who produced the series, for 26 years. Together they raised three children.
First directorial work
It may seem like you don’t hear from Lucy Lawless anymore, but she hasn’t left the film and especially series environment. For example, she starred in Spartak (2012), the horror series Ash vs. Evil and her latest series is called Murder Is My Life (2019-2023). In it she plays the main role, a former police officer who solves murders.
She also dedicated herself to directing and presented her first documentary film Never Look Away a few days ago. The focus is on CNN war photojournalist Margaret Toth, who also comes from New Zealand.
