In an exclusive interview with LA HORA, Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld offered details about the situation of the former vice president of Ecuador, Jorge Glas. She indicated that until now there is no official information about the alleged kidnapping of 95 Ecuadorian migrants in Mexico.
The Chancellor of the Republic, Gabriela Sommerfeldindicated this Friday to LA HORA that the case of the former vice president of Ecuador, Jorge Glas“is reviewed” together with a delegation of the government of Mexico.
In this sense, the chancellor reiterated that the government of Ecuador maintains its position on the situation of Glas in the country, who would not meet the necessary conditions to receive the asylum he requested when he entered the Embassy of Mexico in Quito, to avoid responding to the Ecuadorian justice.
Sommerfeld specified that both the Association of Ambassadors of Ecuador “they decisively support the position of the Government and the Foreign Ministry, there is a country’s position on this issue, we are talking about a common crime case and we do not see that there is a legal basis for it to be grant asylum and that position is maintained.”
The Chancellor highlighted that they maintain an “open and cordial” dialogue with the Mexican authorities and specified that “a mission has come these two days, precisely sent by the Chancellor of Mexico, Alicia Bárcena, to address this and other issues.”

Ukrainian War, Day 800
– 2024-05-04 22:56:26
In this article, the most important events of the war in Ukraine from Friday, May 3, 2024 have been collected. It is the 800th day of the war.

- Russia is ready for “serious” proposals to end the war, Marija Zaharova said.
- Germany accuses Russian military intelligence of cyber attacks – and threatens sanctions.
Germany warns Russia
Russia, which allegedly carried out the cyber attack, must suffer the consequences, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock warns, according to the news agency Reuters.
Germany’s leading Social Democratic Party and several companies have been targeted by cyber attacks since December 2022.
A hacker group controlled by the Russian military intelligence GRU is behind the attacks, Baerbock said on Sunday in Australia.

“Direct and dangerous escalation” – Russia blames Britain
Britain’s statement that Ukraine could use British weapons against targets in Russia is a “direct and dangerous escalation,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says, according to Reuters news agency.
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron promised Ukraine 3 billion pounds of annual military aid on Thursday. According to Cameron, Ukraine will receive aid for as long as it needs.
Cameron’s words reveal the West’s “hidden war” against Russia, Marija Zaharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, estimates.
Russia would respond if Ukraine made attacks on Russian soil with British weapons, says Zaharova.
Zaharova warned on Friday that Russia would retaliate against the West for all attacks against Crimea and the Crimean bridge, the official Russian state newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

Fortum’s former subsidiary demands compensation of billions from Gazprom
Uniper, which is now 99 percent owned by the German state, is demanding billions in damages from the Russian gas giant Gazprom for violating gas contracts, reports news agency Reuters.
According to Reuters, Uniper and Gazprom have a gas supply contract valid until 2035.
As the European Union has not yet imposed sanctions on Russian gas, Uniper has no legal framework to terminate the contracts, the sources told Reuters.
The dispute is currently being processed by the Stockholm Arbitration Court, which is specialized in mediating international contract disputes. According to Reuters, Uniperi expects a solution in the near future, and seeks more than 14 billion euros in compensation from Gazprom.
Uniper was previously owned by the Finnish energy company Fortum. It sold Uniper in December 2022 to the German state at a loss of billions of euros compared to the original investment. 51 percent of Fortum is owned by the Finnish state.

Ukraine also has the right to use British-supplied weapons to strike targets inside Russia. It is up to Ukraine to decide what to do with the weapons, Cameron stated.
