The Brazilian racing driver’s ex-wife has confirmed that Fittipaldi had a Christmas dinner, suffocated and suffered life-threatening injuries, but managed to get the victim to hospital. He’s still there.
“During dinner he choked on a piece of meat and suffered oxygen deprivation, followed by cardiac arrest,” said Fittipaldi’s wife.
Doctors then attended to the victim, but he had difficulty recovering from the anesthesia and therefore had to wait longer until Fittipaldi woke up. His life is not believed to be in danger.
Wilson Fittipaldi Jr. is now 80 years old. He is the brother of two-time F1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Pat competed in the F1 Championship in a Brabham car in 1972 and 1973 before forming the Copersucar team with his brother. The athlete rode in its ranks in the 1975 season. The highest success on individual stages was fifth place at the German Grand Prix in 1973, which at that time was still held on the 22-kilometer-long version of the Nürburgring track.
