Ford said it would reduce production of the F-150 Lightning due to lower-than-expected demand, according to InGadget.
The American company Ford announced on Friday that it will reduce production of the F-150 Lightning electric truck produced at the Michigan Rouge Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Center to one work shift from the beginning of April 2024, according to a company statement.
This decision affects 1,400 workers at the factory. In this context, Ford intends to transfer half of them, ie 700 workers, to the assembly plant in Michigan, to send a further number of them to Ford industrial plants and to benefit others from retirement programs.
The company expects that global sales of electric vehicles will continue to grow this year, but will be lower than previously expected. With this in mind, and given that Ford is preparing the next generation of electric vehicles, the company has decided to stop production of the F-150 Lightning for the foreseeable future.
What’s worth noting is that this isn’t the only electric car where Ford has reduced its production volume. Production of the Mustang Mach-E was also reduced in November.
In connection with the slowdown in plans to produce electric cars in the American market, General Motors postponed the opening of a $4 billion electric truck factory in Michigan for a year in October 2023, Reuters reported.
