Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar” has signed a strategic supply partnership with CMA – CGM Group, the global company specializing in maritime, land, air and logistics solutions. The partnership will explore opportunities for long-term collaboration between the two companies – temporary contracts for the supply of green marine fuel with the aim of supplying ships of the CMA-CGM group.
The aim of the partnership is to supply the CMA-CGM dual-fuel fleet with green marine fuel from various fuel stations as expected from 2025 and to supply ships by 2028 after the phased introduction.
Masdar and CMA-CGM will continue to discuss expanding cooperation opportunities between them, which could include the production of green hydrogen and ammonia.
To achieve its ambitions of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the CMA-CGM Group has set new targets for its activities in the shipping sector as it strives to achieve the International Maritime Organization’s highest greenhouse gas reduction targets. that is, reduce total emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2008 and reduce emissions by 80% by 2040. To achieve this goal, the company is working to accelerate the transition to clean energy in its operations, particularly by integrating low-carbon fuels into the energy mix.
New generation
Leveraging Masdar’s experience and global reputation, this partnership will contribute to the deployment of the new generation of CMA-CGM dual-fuel vessels ready to operate on biofuels and e-fuels based on methane and methanol of which there are currently 35 in the fleet and 84 ships will be added later.
Masdar aims to produce one million tons of green hydrogen by 2030, with support from ADNOC, TAQA and Mubadala, the companies contributing to Masdar.
