This is confirmed to Nettavisen by the chain director for Obs BYGG, Espen Braaten.
– That is good news. “We don’t think there will be that many others opening new warehouses in the year we start, so we will further accelerate the pleasing momentum we had in 2023,” says Braaten.
As for other areas of society, 2023 was a difficult year for the construction industry. A handful of companies large and small had to cut back and several went bankrupt.
However, construction giant Obs Bygg is at the other end of the scale. In 2023, the chain finished with new top spots in both sales and market share.
Extender: This is where they open
Now there are plans to expand to another five warehouses, says Braaten. To date, Obs BYGG has 59 warehouses across the country.
– We come to Tønsberg, Elverum, Bodø, Fredrikstad and Arendal, says Braaten.
In Tønsberg the store will be located in the Kilen trading park. The new department store is scheduled to open on May 30 this year.

Department store manager Ole Petter Kristiansen told Tønsbergs Blad last year that the department would be the same size as other hardware stores.
– It will be about 6,500 square meters, he said.
In addition to physical sales in warehouses, Obs BYGG’s online store reached a new milestone as online sales exceeded one billion in 2023 after growing 20%.
Bought giga storage
At the end of 2023, Coop bought Snipetjernveien 2 in Langhus near Oslo through Coop Norge Eiendom. The building has a total area of around 8,400 square meters and is located next to Coop’s existing main warehouse for commercial products in Langhus. Faghandel supplies all 1250 Coop branches.
– As of today, the building is rented to an external tenant, but the property will of course offer us even more flexibility and more options in the coming years. In our industry, optimized and leading logistics is crucial for competitiveness. “We are therefore very pleased that we have finally become the new owner of this strategically important property,” concluded Braaten.
