“The Ukrainians will start giving it back to the Russians. (…) It is only a matter of time before there is a blackout in Moscow,” military analyst Lukáš Visingr predicts, one of Ukraine’s possible retaliatory measures for attacks on its territory. According to him, the country’s air defense has been greatly strengthened and Russia is now trying to deplete it. “The question is whether this calculation will work,” he claims.

“Today Kiev probably has the best air defense in the world,” Visingr assesses the state of the army’s “umbrella” on Ukrainian territory, not only thanks to Western arms deliveries. Similar to last year, the Russians are continuing their attacks on the country’s critical infrastructure, but are also targeting other targets.
“Of course, many Russian missiles and drones also hit civilian targets. There is a possibility that the Russians are doing this on purpose and are terrorizing the Ukrainians. It’s also possible that they simply don’t care where the missiles land. And where.” Partly it is because some Russian weapons are not as precise as the Russians claim,” explains the analyst.
According to Visingro, the Ukrainians are currently very successful in shooting down drones, but are less successful in eliminating ballistic missiles. According to the analyst, if the Russians start using North Korean Hwasong-11 missiles on a large scale, it could pose a big problem for Ukraine. Such missiles are only capable of intercepting some anti-aircraft systems. “We know from the rubble that the Russians used North Korean missiles at least twice. “So we have clear indications that they have it and have started using it,” warns the expert.
Visingr claims that we already know that many Ukrainian drones have crashed not only on Moscow, but also on a number of other Russian cities. “The most important thing is the psychological impact. When drones fall on their roofs, so to speak, Muscovites can no longer pretend that the war is not their concern and that it is something distant,” describes the analyst. According to him, the main focus so far has been to test what Russian air defense can do and what Ukraine can afford.
However, the Ukrainians already have a wide range of retaliatory measures and, according to Visingro, have made it clear that they will not let the Russian attacks go without retaliation and will respond with great severity. “It is very likely that these attacks will escalate and the Ukrainians will start firing a much larger number of drones. There will no longer be three or five of them landing on Moscow, but perhaps fifty,” he predicts.
