During the first six months of 2024, The world follows French sportsmen and women who will participate in the Olympic Games (from July 26 to August 11) or Paralympic Games (from August 28 to September 8) in Paris. Through reports, portraits and interviews, we tell you how they prepare for this meeting of a lifetime.
As part of this series called “Olympic Design”, you have the opportunity to interact directly with them during a chat organized on Lemonde.fr.
Today we welcome Titouan Castryck. The 19-year-old Frenchman, youngest member of the French canoe-kayak team, is preparing to experience his first Olympic Games. In October 2023, it was on the Olympic basin, in Vaires-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne), that the Breton won his Olympic selection by flying over the slalom World Cup. His navigation “on the razor’s edge” inspires his adversaries and the new generation.

Rafael Devers homers, three hits in his return to the lineup

CLEVELAND — Rafael Devers Not only did he return to action Wednesday night at Progressive Field, but he also showed off his power and helped lift his injury-depleted Red Sox to a win. victoria 8-0 about the Guardians.
After missing five straight games due to a bruised bone in his left knee and putting on the uniform for the first time in a week, the Dominican slugger hit a single, a home run and a double while reaching base in his first four visits. to the plate.
As if to say, “My knee is fine,” Devers roared as he ran all the way from first base in the top of the first inning on Wilyer Abreu’s RBI double.
Well, maybe he didn’t exactly roar running the bases.
“I was praying, to be honest with you,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora. “It didn’t look very good, and then it kind of came loose at the end. “He wasn’t moving very well.”
Devers admitted to being apprehensive about his 270-foot run on a healing left knee.
“I was obviously afraid to go full speed there,” Devers acknowledged. “I haven’t run at full speed since I was injured, but I felt good. I didn’t feel any pain or anything like that. “I’m going to take it day by day to see how I continue to feel, but everything turned out well.”
When the ball left Abreu’s bat for the first time, Devers planned to take it with caution and perhaps go from first to third. But he read the play and accelerated as it developed.
“As soon as I saw the ball go past the outfielder, that’s when I started putting more pressure on it to try to run faster,” Devers said. “Until then, I was trying to take it easy. But when I saw it happen and I had a chance to score, that’s when I went for it.”
In the fifth, Devers found a way to be much gentler on his knee, when he took advantage of Carlos Carrasco’s low-and-out changeup and sent it into the stands in left-center field.
How was Devers able to swing so well after not seeing game action for a week?
“I never stopped hitting,” Devers responded. “I never stopped doing my routine even if I couldn’t swing hard. I was always doing my job, working on my mechanics, so when I came back, my timing I wasn’t too far gone. That’s why everything worked out well, because I continued doing my job during this free time.”
Forgive Cora for not being all that surprised by Devers’ shocking return to action.
“We know who he is,” Cora noted. “It’s very important for our offense. He likes to hit here, we know that. Having him in the lineup is always good.”
In 85 career at-bats in Cleveland, Devers has a .329/.412/.647 slash line with seven homers and 15 RBIs.
And his return to action couldn’t have come at a better time.
Before the game, the Red Sox announced another injury, as Brayan Bello (right side tightness) joined fellow rotation members Nick Pivetta and Garrett Whitlock on the 15-day injured list.
But the Redlegs, with a respectable 14-11 record, have developed a “let’s get to the next guy on the list” mentality.
It wasn’t just Devers who had a great night. Cooper Criswell, one of the “replacement” starters, pitched five scoreless innings.
And Connor Wong hit a pair of home runs as part of a four-hit night.
“That’s a very good thing,” Devers said. “I don’t know how people outside the organization see us, but I think we are a well-trained group. We have very young talent here. “They are doing their job and they are taking a step forward, and it is very positive for us to win despite all the injuries.”
Needless to say, it’s much easier for the Red Sox to survive all those injuries when Devers isn’t one of the players sidelined.
“Whenever that guy is in the lineup, it changes it completely,” Wong summarized. “He can hit the ball very far at any time in the game, and that’s why he’s great when he’s there.”

Coach Guardiola indulges in luxury: A watch worth tens of millions!
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola (53) and his team fell out of the European Cup, and especially during the penalty shootout, his charges gave him quite a few wrinkles on his face. The only joy he had during the match was the rare watch on his left hand, of which only 50 pieces were produced in total, which also corresponds to their astronomical price.
When Real Madrid stopper Antonio Rüdiger converted his penalty kick on Wednesday night, it spelled the end of this season’s Champions League for Pep Guardiola and all of Manchester City. The dream of defending the club’s most prestigious trophy was dashed and the Spanish coach did not hide his huge disappointment after the game. However, fans noticed something else besides his sad expression.
The former Barcelona player, who is known for his stylish clothes and sense of fashion, arrived at the Etihad Stadium wearing the latest version of the Richard Mille watch. These were specially designed for tennis star Rafael Nadal, so it’s no wonder that only 50 of the same pieces were made. And their price is also exclusive. The customer will pay over 20 million crowns for one of these »toys«.
The luxury »alarm clocks«, whose official name is Caliber RM27-01, have a manually wound movement and attract buyers primarily for their weight. It weighs only 18 grams, making it the lightest mechanical watch in the world.
Richard Mille himself, who is one of the founders of the eponymous brand, spoke of them as a triumph of engineering and technology. However, this “miracle” cannot do one thing… bring happiness to Pep Guardiola.
