The Porsche automobile company celebrated another impressive success from the Green Hell, as the demanding German Nürburgring track is sometimes called. The new pre-production version of the Porsche Taycan, which is expected to offer even more impressive performance, set a record for electric sedans.
Test driver Lars Kern at the wheel lapped the track in 7:07.55, improving the Taycan Turbo S Sport’s time from August 2022 by an impressive 26 seconds. In addition, it beat the time of the Tesla Model S Plaid electric sedan (7:25.231) by 17.681 seconds, making it the new king among electric sedans.
In addition, it is worth noting that the time of the new electric Porsche Taycan is only slightly lower than the time of the electric hypercar Rimac Nevera, which lapped the famous circuit in 7:05.298 minutes. The new Taycan, whose name we don’t know yet, will undoubtedly be a very interesting car.

Regarding the technology, the car manufacturer only revealed that the car is equipped with a safety frame and racing seats for the driver’s safety. According to the speculations of colleagues at Motor1, the car could then be equipped with three electric motors with an output of around 1000 hp and possibly a new battery with a different design or chemistry.
The car manufacturer only released a press release, a short video and a few photos about the new record. A longer video with footage from the cabin is scheduled to appear in mid-March, which may provide an indication of the premiere date of the new special model.
“Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. “Lars’ time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational and puts the Taycan in a league with electric hypercars,” said model line manager Kevin Giek. “And the impressive thing is that Lars drove almost exactly the same time over several laps,” added Giek.
The combustion engine Porsche Macan will be phased out in the EU in spring 2024; surprisingly, the reason is not emissions
