Although the entrance to the family home was built later, it turned out that the owners no longer liked its appearance and it had to be completely rebuilt. That’s why the family turned to architects, who found a solution that would make the new entrance area spacious and make the usage options both comfortable and practical.
The extension originally housed an entrance, a hallway and a bathroom with an attached toilet. A large family stored their clothes and shoes in the spacious anteroom.
In the bathroom there was a bathtub, an awkwardly placed boiler and a surface drain from the floor of the family home. The technical condition was very poor.

Choosing a new layout
The goal of the renovation was to create a complete bathroom with a bathtub and shower. The toilet should have been separate. “We were also looking for a place for a new boiler and then suggested a storage room in the hallway,” explains architect Martin Kouba.
The inner courtyard has been reduced in size by approx. 1 meter compared to its original state. Nevertheless, there are enough cupboards and storage space. Under the replaced window there is a washing machine and dryer and a large area for washing clothes.
The sliding door leads to another part of the house. There is a separate toilet with a sink. This is followed by a bathroom with a very spacious bathtub and shower.
The boiler has its place in the hallway in an atypical corner cupboard. The architects decided on a flat-panel boiler so that the cupboard would cause as little disruption as possible in a busy hallway.

Material solution
The furniture is made of laminate in two decors – oak and cream. The doors are also made of oak, complemented by black fittings.
A stone sink was a big wish of the owners. “We mounted it on a cabinet we made ourselves – the top is made of durable laminate, the recessed edges are solid.” The base is made of stainless steel, powder-coated black. “The production technology of both the panel and the substrate guarantees high resistance even in damp environments,” explains the architect.
The tiles in the bathroom are large format in two decors – the dark one is used in the shower corner and on the floor, the light one is used on the remaining walls and the bathtub.
The batteries are black with Hard Graphite decor. There is pleasant additional lighting under the round mirror and in both storage niches.
“The bathroom is fragmented, there are two niches and a window, so it was a challenge to design a beautiful grout (tile arrangement). Of course, we choose stone corners in the niches,” adds designer Alena Koubová with details about the implementation of the building.
The family also has a newly furnished separate toilet in the same style as the bathroom. There are black designer radiators in both rooms.
