The incident occurred in front of a square on Fethi Sekin Street. According to available information, Halil Gül (34) and Hüsnü Akan (35), who work in an advertising agency, climbed to the 10th floor of the square with the help of a crane to hang an advertising sign. When the crane chain broke for an unknown reason, the workers fell from a meter-high height with the basket they were riding on. After the situation was reported, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. While the police took security measures in the area, Hüsnü Akan, one of the workers who was found to be seriously injured when examined by the medical teams, was taken to Bayraklı City Hospital and Halil Gül was taken to Ege University Medical Faculty Hospital.
While Gül and Akan, who were being treated in hospitals, could not be saved despite the interventions and lost their lives, the crane owner EP and the crane operator FY were arrested by police teams. The bodies of Gül and Akan were taken to the mortuary of the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Izmir after examination by the prosecutor.
An investigation into the incident has been launched.
