Inter couldn’t keep the points without a fight at home against Hellas Verona in the nineteenth round of Serie A on Saturday afternoon. After an exciting final phase, the score was 2-1 in Milan. Former Brugge player Tajon Buchanan was in the stands.
Top scorer Lautaro Martinez (13th) opened the scoring early. Henrikh Mkhitaryan reached the Argentine, who scored his sixteenth goal of the competition from the penalty spot on the right wing.
Inter rested too much on their laurels in the second half and were surprised by Thomas Henry (74th) shortly before the start of the last quarter. The former French striker from OH Leuven was on the pitch when he kneed the equalizer into the net. A precise rebound from substitute Davide Frattesi (90+2) finally left Giuseppe Meazza bursting at the seams. But it wasn’t over yet. Henry thwarted the ultimate chance for a draw in the 100th minute by firing a penalty onto the post.
Jackson Tchatchoua and Cyril Ngonge were given starting berths for the visitors, who finished with a man less after Darko Lazovic was sent off following heated protests following the winning goal. Tchatchoua completed the 90 minutes while Ngonge was allowed a break in the 87th minute.
In the ranking of the highest Italian league, Inter is in first place with 48 points. Hellas has to be relegated and is in eighteenth place with fourteen units.
