There was great interest in the Monday evening gala “Singing Together Against Cancer”, which was broadcast on TV4, and it was clear afterwards that SEK 92 million had been raised for cancer research.
– Many thanks to everyone who contributed by becoming monthly donors, making major gifts, and getting involved. The evening was a celebration of life and the progress of research, says Ulrika Årehed Kågström, Secretary General of the Cancer Foundation, in a press release.
The gala was hosted by Jill Johnson and Tareq Taylor and featured several well-known personalities speaking about their difficult experiences with cancer.
One of them is the artist Miriam Bryant.
Her sister Sarah Bryant was only 41 years old when she died in the spring.
– She was absolutely the coolest thing in the world, she was my guiding light. I copied so much of my personality because I looked up to her so much. All the girls wanted to be her and all the boys wanted her, she gave so much of herself, says Bryant on TV4.
Whenever she had problems growing up, she would turn to her sister.
– If she could have endured everyone else’s pain, she would have. She drove until it somehow stopped.
I am looking for care and will be admitted immediately
Miriam Bryant says the sister had been tired for a long time.
– When she finally sought treatment, she was already very, very sick.
The nurse called Miriam Bryant from a hospital and told her she had been admitted – the artist’s only thought was “damn, it’s cancer.” The hour passed in slow motion.
– Then that was it, cancer.
Then they found out it was colon cancer – stage four.
– Her body had already started to shut down. I didn’t understand that she was going to die… I didn’t understand that she was going to die until the doctors said it, it was so advanced that she didn’t even have time to start chemotherapy. We thought we would spend at least one summer with her.
In April, Sarah decided to leave the hospital.
– Ten days before her death we were at a Beyoncé concert, but that’s Sarah. It hits the tile, so to speak. Not just at a party. But for life.
Last spring, Miriam Bryant lost her sister to cancer.

Bryant’s grief after his sister’s death
The sister was then admitted to a palliative care ward.
– Sarah has always been there. “It’s incredibly painful to miss someone before they’re gone,” says Miriam Bryant with tears in her eyes.
– If I forgot how to be beautiful, I would have no one to remind me…
Shortly before her sister died, the whole family stood around her. Sarah had been in pain for a long time.
– We said that it was okay, that it was okay, that she could let go… that we would take over… and that we would take care of mom and dad.
During the TV4 gala, Miriam Bryant performed the song “Sarkofag”.
– I sing it to her, she is with me, says Miriam Bryant in “Sing together against cancer”.
