The competition continues on the territory of Mauritania and today a 473 km long circular stage had to be completed with start and finish in Chami, of which 453 km was a speed stage. Athletes were greeted by seemingly endless expanses of sand where the focus had to be on navigation.
Lube’s performance was by far the best, winning both the T3 class and the overall standings, beating nearest rival Ricardo Sousa by almost half an hour. The winner of the T1 class, Pascal Ferin, took third place. Polins remains the convincing leader in the overall standings, beating nearest rival Ferin by 3 hours and 36 minutes. Meanwhile, T5 class leader Tomáš Tomaček has already moved up to third place in the overall standings, but his gap to Polin is approaching the five-hour mark. Carlos Vento is the leader of T4, but Filipe Šampiņas is now at the top of the SSV.
In the motorcycle category, the usual three riders were consistently the fastest. Alessandro Botturi won by two minutes over Giacopo Cerutti, but Paul Tares lost this time by 12 minutes. In the overall standings, Ceruti is just a minute ahead of Botturi, while Tares has dropped to third, 13 minutes behind.
Stefano Ciussi finished 25th overall and second in the 450+ class on today’s stage. The athlete representing LaMSF is ranked 17th overall but is second in his class.
