The Pro League decided on Wednesday to cancel two quarter-final games in the Croky Cup. This decision was met with little understanding by many supporters.
The winter weather was announced last week, but it took until Wednesday afternoon for the Pro League to make a decision about the cup games.
Ultimately it was decided that the games between Union-Anderlecht and OHL-Antwerp were canceled. The game between KV Oostende and RWDM could continue.
“We monitored the situation for several days with calendar manager Nils Van Brantegem and the RMI,” explains Lorin Parys, CEO of the Pro League, to Het Laatste Nieuws.
“We saw that the weather forecasts were changing and somewhat contradicting each other. We had a meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning where it was decided that there was an issue for the Union and OHL games.”
The deciding factor was clear to Parys. “At some point you have to make a decision. You take certain criteria into account, such as the playability of the field and the safety of the fans. The RMI said it could snow in Leuven and Brussels until 3am.”
It is to be hoped that these are the last calendar changes for this season, because there is no longer much leeway in the calendar, adds Parys.
