Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patriks Laine will apply for the NHL Assistance Program, so he will not play for the club in the near future. “After careful consideration and conversations with those closest to me, I have realized the importance of thinking about my mental health and well-being. Hockey is my life and my passion, but to do it well I need time for myself. I am grateful to the team, the league and the fans for their support and understanding. “I will return to the ice with a clear head and renewed energy,” Laine was quoted as saying in his statement.
This season, Laine only took part in 18 games. Various injuries prevented him from continuing to play. Laine has six goals and three assists in 18 games. In the 2016 NHL Draft, the ice hockey player was selected with the high second number by the Winnipeg Jets. In 480 regular season games for the Jets and Blue Jackets, he scored 204 goals and had 184 assists, while the forward had eight goals and eight assists in 24 playoff games.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are among the weakest teams in the league for the second year in a row. With 40 points won in 49 games, the club is in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference and is the fifth-weakest team in the entire league.
