In a recent interview with Het Belang van Limburg, Johan Boskamp expressed his concerns about Standard’s financial situation. He shared his thoughts on the circumstances surrounding the club and also took a look at the furore surrounding the Belgian referees.
Boskamp expressed concern about recent changes at Standard, including the replacement of Carl Hoefkens by Ivan Leko. He stressed that the situation at Standard was “concerning” following rumors of high debt levels. Boskamp doubts that the American owners will invest enough funds to stabilize the club.
Boskamp also took the time to look back at the situation surrounding the Belgian referees and particularly looked back at the discussions surrounding VAR decisions. He understands the frustration of clubs like KRC Genk who have been involved in such (questionable) VAR moments. However, he doubts the feasibility of replaying games after VAR errors and wonders how such situations can be avoided in the future.
Furthermore, he believes that Vermeeren and Heynen scored too low for the Golden Shoe. In his opinion, this is an “absolute disgrace” and the journalists who voted should not call themselves experts.
