Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Jastremska (WTA 96), ranked number one in the Australian Open qualifiers and coached by Latvian specialist Mārcis Garuts, played three three-set matches this week and finally moved into the main tournament. First the Croatian Lea Bošković (#222) defeated (6:3, 4:6, 6:3), yesterday the Greek Valentini Gramatikopoulos (#221) won (6:4, 3:6, 6:4), but played today (6:2, 1:6, 6:4) Australian Maya Joynt (#573), who is 17 years old. In the first round of the main tournament, the Ukrainian has to compete against the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (#7).
Two more Ukrainian women (Darya Snigura and Yulia Starodubtseva) passed the qualification, so seven tennis players from Ukraine will take part in the main singles tournament.
The Australian association did not extend a special invitation to its first racket Arina Rodionova (WTA 105). Therefore, she had to compete in the qualification, where she lost in the first round to Frenchman Leolie Jean Jean (#145) and later expressed her dissatisfaction. “I think they are very happy with my result,” 34-year-old Arina Rodionova told aap.com.au. “It’s very clear to me that they don’t like me.” The Frenchwoman then won two more qualifying games and made it into the main tournament.
The number 1 women’s qualification is through!
Dayana Yastremska outlasts local young player Maya Joint 6:2, 1:6, 6:4.
