You can use Stolen Device Protection after installing iOS 17.3. This update has been available since Monday. When Stolen Device Protection is enabled, you must verify your identity before you can access passwords in iCloud Keychain, make payments, or turn off Lost Mode, among other things. To prove your identity, you can use Face ID or Touch ID.
If the feature is enabled, you’ll also have to wait an hour before you can change your Apple ID password or device PIN. You will then need to prove your identity again using Face ID or Touch ID. If you are in a familiar location, such as home or office, there is no waiting time or a second ID check. The waiting period also applies if you want to remove your Face ID or Touch ID.
These additional layers of security should make it much more difficult for thieves to get their hands on your data, making stealing an iPhone a little less attractive.

How do you activate this?
To use stolen device protection, you must first activate the function. You can do this by going to your Settings and then “Face ID and Passcode.” After you enter your passcode, you can activate Stolen Device Protection. If you are not at a known location, there will be a wait here too.
A few more layers of security: To enable the feature, you must use two-factor authentication. You’ll also need to enable: a passcode for your iPhone, Face ID or Touch ID, Find Me, and important locations.
You can also find a complete overview of the Stolen Device Protection feature on Apple’s website.
