Starting in June 2024, low-cost airline Frontier is adding eight new destinations with service to Puerto Rico from Luis Muñoz Marín Airport without the need for a stopover.
According to a press release, the airline now has 22 destinations from which you can travel non-stop to Puerto Rico.
Destinations added by the airline include Fort Lauderdale, Charlotte, Boston, Norfolk, Palm Beach, Fort Myers, Santa Cruz and San Martín.
Direct flights to Puerto Rico will begin June 1, 2024. Some will fly up to four times a week and will cost between $19 and $69.
Flights between Boston and San Juan have a frequency of three times per week at a cost of $69.
The announcement coincides with the airline’s announcement that it will establish a new crew base at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan in June 2024 to expand its presence on the island and generate more than $80 million in local salaries annually.
Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines, expressed his gratitude to the government of Puerto Rico and the island’s tourism and commercial partners.
“Our 13th crew base in San Juan will provide significant economic impact and new jobs for Puerto Ricans. This base will also help maintain smooth flight operations, benefiting customers who have access to our Low Fares Done Right as we continue to expand our operations in Puerto Rico,” Biffle commented.
Additionally, further growth is expected in the coming years through job creation and strengthening Puerto Rico’s connection to destinations across the country. In the first year of operation at the base port, the airline plans to employ up to 90 pilots and 200 flight attendants in addition to the employees who work at the airport and maintain the aircraft.
