Corpcore
A new trend that emerged in 2023 and that EDITED is expected to fully adopt in 2024 is Corpcore. The name is derived from the word Corperate, or matter-of-fact, and actually says what the trend represents: a movement focused on outfits you would expect to see in business and school. Next year, designs from brands like Maison Margiele and Prada will be dominated by oversized fits and blazers with sharp shoulder fits. The trend is often mentioned in the same breath as the rise of Yuppiecore, with Yup standing for Young Urban Professional. The movement symbolizes young people entering corporate life to make good money, but not wearing full suits like the older generation. The style is perhaps most similar to the commonly known “business casual”. For example, someone wears a blazer or tie but completes their outfit with baggy jeans and sneakers.
EDITED takes the Kith brand as an example to highlight Corpcore’s growing popularity. Last year, the label recorded 167 percent growth in sales of blazers and brought more than ten different styles onto the market. Additionally, celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Julia Fox, Jonah Hill, A$AP Rocky and Tyler, the Creator play an important role in Corpcore’s growth. With this trend, it’s not surprising that both men and women are matching each other’s clothes. Kylie Jenner or Jennifer Lopez are regularly seen in a men’s blazer and these days you won’t be surprised if Ronnie Flex or Bokoesam carry a feminine handbag to add that certain something to their nerd outfit.
If EDITED is to be believed, the tie will achieve cult status in 2024. And that doesn’t just apply to the data company, as GQ Magazine also predicts that the item will become the accessory of the year in 2024. Many fashion enthusiasts have already experienced wearing trendy blazers, shirts and trousers, but are also likely to experiment with more extravagant, ironic and nerdy looks in the coming year.
