BMW plans to produce exclusively electric cars at its Munich factory within four years, Germany’s Auto Bild reports. The news was announced by Milan Nedeljkovic, the board member responsible for production. The company is spending 650 million euros (more than 246 billion HUF) to renovate the plant. According to the plans, production of new cars will start in 2026, and from 2027 only electric cars will roll off the production line in the Munich plant. This will make it the first BMW plant to switch completely to the production of electric cars.
As part of the 650 million euro investment, a new assembly center, a new body shop and several logistics areas will be built. To make room for expansion at the Munich plant, engine production was relocated to Hams Hall in England and Steyr in Austria, requiring the relocation or retraining of 1,200 employees.
The new electric vehicles will initially be produced in the new BMW factory in Debrecen and Munich, and later in Shenyang, China, and San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
