Anne Nivat is not friendly with the head of BFM TV, Marc-Olivier Fogiel. While the news channel has been struggling for several months with a decline in viewership and the loss of its emblematic faces, the great reporter decides to strike hard after the departure of Laurent Ruquier.
Even if she decides to appreciate the professionalism of the presenter of the RTL program “Große Têtes”, she decides to attack Fogiel and the president of Altice France Arthur Dreyfuss, owner of BFM TV, telling them: “You don’t improvise .” as a journalist.
Anne Nivat writes on her Twitter account:
“Monumental failure for Laurent Ruquier at BFM TV and his current management Marc-Olivier Fogiel and Arthur Deyfuss. As journalists, we cannot improvise and the public (the audience) cannot be fooled by anything. But at least the true professional that is Laurent Ruquier knows how to recognize it and move on.
After 23 years of entertaining at France 2, 60-year-old Ruquier caused a surprise when he joined BFMTV at the start of the school year. Since September 25th he has hosted “Le 20h de Ruquier”, Monday to Thursday from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This current debate show was in competition with “L’heure des pros 2” by Pascal Praud (CNews), “Touche pas à mon poste” by Cyril Hanouna (C8), “Quotidien” (TMC) or “C à you”. (France 5), in addition to the 8 p.m. news from the major networks.
This departure comes at a time when BFMTV (owned by billionaire Patrick Drahi’s group Altice) is going through a complicated period. For a long time it was France’s leading news channel, closely followed by CNews (Canal+ group, controlled by billionaire Vincent Bolloré).
In November, the latter had narrowed the gap separating it from BFMTV over a whole month (2.5% versus 2.8%). In addition, in December CNews was the leading news channel in France twice for a whole week (from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m., then from 6 p.m. to midnight), while this had never been the case before in its six years of existence.
In addition to the viewer issue, BFMTV recently lost several of its stars. The latest is journalist Bruce Toussaint, who is heading to TF1, where he will host the morning news “Bonjour!” from January 8th.
Before him, Aurélie Casse moved to France 5 (in the programs “C l’hebdo” and “C à vous”) and Jean-Baptiste Boursier moved to the TF1 group’s news channel, LCI. In addition, there are recurring rumors about Altice selling BFMTV, which have always been denied.
