The Jam Master Jay murder case will begin on Monday in New York, the French news agency reports AFP. The DJ of the hip-hop group Run-DMC was shot dead in his studio on October 30, 2002 at the age of 37.
Little progress was made in the case for eighteen years until an official indictment was filed against suspect Karl Jordan Jr. in 2020. and Ronald Washington. A third suspect was arrested last June. He is also said to have been involved in the murder and will only be brought to justice later. All three men claim they are innocent.
For a long time it was not known why the DJ, whose real name was Jason William Mizell, was shot. Court documents now show that prosecutors say the murder was linked to 10 kilograms of cocaine that Mizell purchased to distribute to a group that included the suspects. The DJ would have wanted to continue the deal without Washington, which would have caused bad blood and led to a settlement.
Jam Master Jay was a member of Run-DMC. The hip-hop group scored hits in the eighties and nineties with songs like Go this way In It is like it is.
