- Intel has an AI chipset ready for cars
- It will be the first to be used in the Chinese brand Zeekr’s electric cars
- Mercedes-Benz is also improving its assistant with generative AI
Modern cars are increasingly mobile computers, which has its advantages and disadvantages. If you’re not one of those who are strictly anti-electronics in vehicles, you’ll certainly be happy to see a new chipset from Intel that brings the latest trend in artificial intelligence to vehicles. A few months after the Intel CEO announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence into “everything,” we’re starting to get a clearer picture of where it will go first.
Will cars be smarter than people?
Intel has announced its AI-focused chip for the automotive industry, or as it describes it, “the first generation of a software-defined system-on-a-chip for AI vehicles.” Intel also announced the acquisition of an energy management company and a new initiative to standardize battery performance for electric cars. The first company to agree to install these chips in its vehicles is Zeekr, the electric car subsidiary of China’s Geely. Among other things, she is also the mother of the car company Volvo. The first Zeekr vehicle with Intel AI hardware will launch later this year.
AI is also no stranger to the German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz
“We are bringing AI computing into cars” said Jack Weast, vice president of Intel Automotive, at a press conference last week. “But we can’t just put a computer in the car. We know that car manufacturers need to be able to change the architecture of their vehicles to be software defined.” he also added a realistic view of the matter. It’s not just Intel that wants to bring more artificial intelligence into vehicles. Mercedes-Benz is adding generative artificial intelligence to its in-car voice assistant, paving the way for more natural interactions and personalized driver experiences.
Do not overlook
Samsung has introduced a competitor to Apple CarPlay. He also showed a vision for the use of artificial intelligence
The improved virtual assistant MBUX will run on the new generation of the MB.OS operating system and will create “the most human interface with a Mercedes-Benz car to date,” at least according to the automaker itself. Examples of this include predictive behavior such as reading the headlines of the Morning messages when boarding the vehicle or rescheduling an appointment if the vehicle owner’s calendar indicates that he or she cannot make the appointment. Mercedes says the first MB.OS cars will feature the upcoming Mercedes Modular Architecture in 2025.
