The representative of the North America and Oceania Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the United States should really think about its responsibility in the Ukrainian crisis and not add fuel to the fire.
The Chinese diplomat added, in a press conference ahead of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to China: “The United States must really think about its responsibility in the Ukrainian crisis, not add fuel to the fire, and not use this crisis as an opportunity to achieve gains.”
The Chinese diplomat called on the American side to stop discrediting Russian-Chinese relations.
He continued: “The United States may not continue attempts to distort the normal relations between China and Russia, and provoke confrontation between the two blocs, and of course it must not at all distort China’s reputation and place responsibility on it.”
The Chinese diplomat stressed that the Ukrainian issue does not pose any problem in relations between his country and the United States.

The mentioned areas have in common that they were dominated by coal mining in the past. Other municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian, Ústí and Karlovy Vary regions are in a similar situation. For them, the move away from coal poses risks of job losses and further outflow of talented people. This is precisely why money from the European Just Transition Fund, which is part of the so-called Green Deal for Europe, should flow into them.
“We need to align the starting line,” declared the Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL). According to him, the aim is to support projects that will maintain or even better increase the number of jobs in the mentioned regions, or take care of the development of business, culture or research.

The state has already approved the first funds. So far, he has approved support in the amount of 13.9 billion crowns. So far, 1.1 billion have been paid out. A total of 39.4 billion is available in the program. So far, companies or institutions have applied for less than 31 billion.
Roughly a third of the money, just under 11 billion, goes to public sector projects, i.e. mainly regions and municipalities. Almost 10 billion was requested by the academic sector, a similar amount also falls to private enterprises. Non-profit organizations then want subsidies for half a billion.
Processing of applications is at various stages. There are 31 large, so-called strategic projects in all three regions. The Moravian-Silesian region is the furthest along with their approval, for which the state has already approved six plans. One for the Ústí Region, but there is no approved project in Karlovy Vary. The ministry wants to have all requests approved by the middle of this year.
“Strategic projects are often a complex of many activities. From hard investments to research and development,” Petr Valdman, director of the State Environment Fund, outlined the reason why things run at different paces. “At the turn of 2021 and 2022, we allocated funds for final project preparation. Those who took advantage of this opportunity are now the furthest away,” he added.
The Just Transformation Fund has so far secured funding until 2027. The Czech Republic is now discussing what will happen next at the European level. During the debate at the Council of the EU, Hladík called on other environment ministers to support the continuation of the fund.
“I don’t want to shout it out, but I think we can push for the Just Transformation to become a standard program,” stated Hladík.

The UN rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, denounced this Thursday that the situation in the Gaza Strip “has worsened” even after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a ruling ordering Israel to avoid genocide in the Palestinian enclave.
“My visit has shown that the situation in Gaza has worsened since my last assessment, with serious and multi-level long-term implications. “Most of the Palestinians I met have suffered catastrophic injuries,” the UN rapporteur said at a news conference in Cairo.
Albanese, who visited Jordan and Egypt this week, denounced the deterioration of the situation in Gaza even after the first ICJ ruling and the second set of preliminary measures issued by the court on March 28 for “Israel to end to their possible genocidal behavior.
As an example, he gave the obstacles to the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, where “malnutrition has become chronic”while the land crossings remain unopened for the necessary amounts of assistance to enter and cover the most basic needs of the Palestinians.
“The humanitarian measures implemented so far – air drops and sea corridors – are a mere palliative for what is desperately needed and legally owed. These measures are grossly inadequate to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe that Israel’s attack has created,” criticized the Italian lawyer.
In this sense, he asked that the attention of the international community, in reference to Western powers, be focused “on the most likely implication: the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians” and on “doing everything in its power to prevent it.” .
“Israeli policies that encompass the occupied Palestinian territory are, without a doubt, endangering Palestinian existence on their land, on what remains of their land,” lamented the United Nations rapporteur.
