The Chicago Blackhawks lost 4-2 to the New Jersey Devils on Friday. Conor Bedard was injured midway through the first third and was unable to continue the game after Brendan Smith’s power play. On Sunday, the Blackhawks announced that Bedard had been placed on the injured list with a broken jaw.

Bedards, who was drafted number one last summer, has had a brilliant debut season. The 18-year-old center scored 15 goals and 18 assists in 39 games, making him both the NHL’s best rookie and the Blackhawks’ best hockey player.
Bedard’s injury announcement did not specify an expected recovery time frame. The young star has been selected to take part in the All-Star Game, which will be held in Toronto on February 3rd. With his retirement, Bedard would become the youngest All-Star ever.
Smith was not sent off for the power play, but the game continued in a tense atmosphere. In the second third, the “Devils” ice hockey player accepted Nick Folino’s fighting challenge. It wasn’t Smith who suffered more, but rather Folino, who is already on the injured list due to a broken finger.
The salaries of the Blackhawks players on the injured list are at 35 million, while the salaries of the players able to play are at 34 million.
The Blackhawks are second to last in the Western Conference standings, ahead of only the San Jose Sharks.
