The 41st edition of Macfrut will take place at the Rimini Expo Center from 8 to 10 May 2024, the main Italian event dedicated to the fruit and vegetable supply chain which this year too will put the spotlight on Africa, confirming its role as an international crossroads for business, knowledge and networking in the agrifood sector.
With over 1,400 exhibitors, of which 40% from foreign countries, Macfrut establishes itself as the most international event on the Italian agrifood scene. The exhibition area expands to 34 thousand square meters, marking a growth of 20% compared to the previous edition, and sees the presence of 1,500 top global buyers, with the support of Agenzia Ice, which further strengthens the international commitment of the fair.
One of the strong presences of this edition is that of African exhibitors, 400 compared to 250 last year. The focus on Africa is also reflected in the presence of a pavilion entirely dedicated to African countries. The continent, increasingly at the center of the Italian government’s international policies, thanks to the implementation of the Mattei Plan, will see the participation of 400 exhibitors from 24 countries, including first appearances by Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, Namibia and Togo . Also important are the expanded exhibition areas for Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, Nigeria, Mozambique and Mali, with 37 companies.
The strategic importance of Africa at Macfrut was also underlined by the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, who highlighted how the fair represents an essential platform for developing countries, in particular Africa, to acquire knowledge on how to produce quality, ensure food self-sufficiency and access Western markets.
In line with the objectives of sustainable development and international cooperation, the Aics (Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development) will have a leading role, with the presence of 13 of its international offices. This highlights Italy’s commitment to promoting the development of sustainable agri-food systems, with a particular focus on knowledge, process and technological innovation.
The Lab Innova for Africa, a training project created by the Ice Agency and now integrated into the event, will allow 20 African companies from Angola and Senegal to visit the Italian agribusiness districts, offering a precious opportunity for growth and direct learning.
Macfrut therefore confirms itself not only as a reference event for the fruit and vegetable sector but also as an important catalyst for international relations and development policies, with special attention towards Africa, which is thus projected at the center of the world agricultural stage.

I saw relief in everyone on Eid: Minister of State for Commerce
– 2024-04-15 13:42:51
Commerce State Minister Ahsanul Islam Titu said, I was in my village for five days during the Eid holidays. I went to the fields and talked to the common people. I saw a relief in everyone.
The Minister of State for Commerce said these things in response to a question from journalists at the Secretariat on Monday (April 15).
Joint Secretary General of BNP said that the happiness of Eid and Pahela Baisakh has been washed away by the tears of the common people due to the increase in commodity prices. When reporters asked for his opinion on this matter, the state minister for commerce said that everyone celebrated Eid with enthusiasm. This year’s New Year, not only in Dhaka city, but also in the villages, the way the New Year was celebrated, there was a fair, I saw enthusiasm there. If someone says something politically, it is better not to answer there. Nothing to answer. Only the people can say whether they are uncomfortable or comfortable. However, I saw everyone celebrating Eid and New Year with enthusiasm. This is my experience. I think he said it politically. There is nothing to answer about it.
The Prime Minister’s order was to give relief to people in Ramadan, will it continue after Ramadan or not? In response to the questions of the journalists, the Minister of State for Commerce said that we will work for the continuous supply of daily commodities throughout the year, not only during Ramadan. We will strengthen our local supply chains including import and export. There were huge challenges in Ramadan. Demand for everything triples. It is a great experience for me. You know, we brought onions from Delhi. Along with that, we had enough of all our daily commodities including oil, sugar. Prices were going down, not up. I have overcome these challenges.
How far did you go about writing the price on the sack of rice? In response to such questions from journalists, the Minister of State for Commerce said that the Ministry of Food can give the correct answer in this regard. The Ministry of Agriculture can give a better answer. We will coordinate if there is anything from our ministry. Each ministry does its own work. The function of the Ministry of Commerce is to manage the market and keep the supply of goods uninterrupted; Especially, things that are imported. And it would be good if the relevant ministry said about local agricultural products and food.
You said to implement from Pahela Baisakh? When the journalists counter-questioned, Titu said that the relevant ministry has issued this issue. Then what happened, I can tell by coordination meeting with them I can tell you only after the meeting.
Eggplant is 5 taka in the village, it is 70 taka in the city. What are you working on? In response to this question, he said, the Directorate of Agriculture Marketing can give the answer to this related question. What we can, is our part of the market management, especially the import and wholesale markets. You have seen, the way we worked in the month of Ramadan, we will work in the same way for twelve months. We will monitor the things that are in the import market including oil, sugar.
