I decided to write this text because I am very impressed with how Nintendo Switch is performing in the market and connecting with people. This is a console that has exceptional power in the form of couch games, but above all has simple rules and a trivial interface. Thanks to this, anyone who turns on the device will feel at home there.
I had to get used to the switch earlier, as unfortunately it often happened that the low performance of this device put me off. Since I had a powerful computer and a PlayStation 5 at home, I ignored Switch games for a while, convinced I wouldn’t play anything on it until the sequel was released. Well, I was completely wrong, because Nintendo has proven to me once again that their greatest strength lies in pure fun and not necessarily in technical aspects. I just had to change my mindset and not put the graphics first. When I did, I became completely absorbed in the magic of the switch.

I don’t even mind playing at 1080p on a 4K TV, and I have no problem playing dozens of EA FC 24 games in portable mode. Little did I know that Mario Wonder would amaze me at every turn with his ingenuity and treasure trove of amazing ideas. The biggest advantage of this device is simply couch games, which cannot be found in the competition. I think that’s why this console sells so well. It offers fun for the whole family on one screen, with very simple rules.
Nintendo Switch Sports was a huge hit for me over the holidays
I know Switch is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Although a successor has not been officially announced yet, everyone expects its debut in 2024. However, it is never too late for Switch. I found this out when the whole family came to my house on Christmas Eve. At one point I suggested to my brother-in-law that maybe we could play a quick game of bowling. I didn’t think that this innocent request would encourage other people to play, including my aunts, uncles and even my father who is a bit new to gaming. The rules were so simple and the game so addictive that a quick round turned into a full tournament that lasted over two hours, where I even created a prize for the highest score. There’s something special about bowling because it’s hard to stop, but then we turned to golf and the next day my wife played a long game of tennis and badminton with her brother. Even though she was never a gamer and stayed away from the PlayStation 5, let alone a powerful computer.
I think this is a breakthrough in their lives since I’ve only had the Switch for a short time. I didn’t try to encourage her to play it before, but she got so involved with bowling that she automatically wants to listen to other productions. She’s already playing Mario Kart 8 with me, we even completed a few levels in Mario Wonder, and when I turned on Super Mario Odyssey she really enjoyed wearing the hat. This was quite a shock for me, as I had no idea that these supposed “children’s games for children”, as Mario is commonly called, would have such great appeal. I realize that my wife is not an exceptional case and in our gaming life we are often faced with the fact that our other half does not understand how we can spend so many hours playing “those stupid games”. And there you go, it’s not only understandable but even fun.
Without Switch I wouldn’t have been able to convince them to do it, but the whole family loved Switch Sports so much that some people were already asking when we would do it again. Even when I took it to one of my friends, the equipment worked great. The party was then in full swing. When some of my friends saw how much fun it was to play bowling or tennis, they immediately didn’t want to leave the console and Switch, although not planned, became the main topic of our meeting. Poor graphics, jagged edges or lower resolution didn’t bother anyone. Nobody even paid attention. That’s why I think the Switch’s strength lies somewhere else entirely. I’m already looking for more couch productions as I expect them to be a similar success as “Switch Sports”. Even though I have had this console several times, my level of ignorance was once too high to understand the phenomenon of this device. And a business trip to Los Angeles for Blizzcon helped me with that.
