As the cold season approaches, bears go into hibernation, other animals come back to life, but have you ever wondered what alligators do in winter? A video showing how alligators survive the winter has become popular on social media.
Of course, in parts of the world where winters are just as warm as our summers, for example, alligator life is probably not much different from other seasons.
But what do these reptiles do that live in places where the water freezes and it’s cold in winter?
The Texas Wildlife Rescue Center revealed the mystery on social media.
It’s winter in Texas right now. The pond where the center’s alligators live is covered in a layer of ice. As it turns out, alligators live under the ice in the winter, with only their snouts sticking through the ice so they can breathe. The rest of the body lies under the ice.
Center staff note that alligators “freeze” or go into hibernation under the ice in cold weather. Since they are cold-blooded animals, they can survive in such conditions.
