Anabolic steroids were discovered during the doping analyzes at the Pole in April last year. For consuming banned substances, Glowacki was sentenced to a four-year ban, which runs until April 5, 2027.
Glowacki fought his last boxing fight to date last January when he lost in Manchester to British boxer Richard Riakpor, who is undefeated in his 17 fights.
The 37-year-old Glowacki has ended his boxing career. Last summer, when he was expected to be disqualified for doping, he made his debut in another sport – mixed martial arts (MMA).
In his career as a professional boxer, Glowacki has won 32 victories and suffered four defeats, one of them in Riga in 2019, when he lost to Briedis in a fight for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) championship belt.
In 2015, Glowacki defeated German boxer Marko Hook to become WBO world champion, but he lost this title a year later in a loss to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. Until then, Glowacki was undefeated in 26 fights.
The fight between Glowack and Briež in 2019 caused a lot of excitement. The boxers were originally supposed to fight for the WBO and WBC titles, but the World Boxing Council (WBC) announced on the day of the fight that it was withdrawing its belt from this duel.
WBC President Mauricio Suleiman stated that the fight’s organizers, the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS), had failed to ensure the integrity of the fight and had not adhered to the council’s rules. The head of the organization alleged that the WBC had been discriminated against.
The outcome of the fight was also scandalous, because in the second round Glowacki hit Briedis on the back of the head, to which the Latvian boxer responded with an elbow strike on his opponent’s jaw. The Polish boxer was paralyzed after the blow, but later continued the fight.
In the third round, Briedis knocked out Glowacki, who later filed a lawsuit with his team to annul the result of the fight and disqualify the Latvian boxer. Glowacki also lost his lawsuit as his claims were dismissed.
