Thiruvananthapuram: Two pigs trapped in potholes were shot dead. Yesterday evening, two pigs fell into the pothole of Manjamala Sushilan’s house in Pothankot. The family immediately informed the Pothankot Panchayat president. Then the gunmen led by the panchayat president came and shot the pigs in the well at around 8:30 p.m.
They were buried nearby by digging a hole with an earth scraper. Last month, around 45 pigs were shot from different districts of Pothankot Panchayat. The panchayat decided to shoot them as the crop was widespread and there was a danger to two-wheeler drivers traveling at night. For this purpose, 2 shooters and 3 assistants were deployed under the direction of the Panchayat.
They will hunt hogs in the areas until 1 a.m. every day. For this purpose, Rs 1,000 per pig was allocated from the panchayat’s own fund. Panchayat president TR Anilkumar says locals often come together because they know there will be firing, which poses great danger.
