Although Andrzej Sapkowski’s book “The Witcher Saga” is, according to many, a masterpiece, it was the games from the Polish studio CD Projekt RED that brought the brand worldwide fame. The first game in the Witcher series was released in 2007 and received almost immediate recognition from both gamers and reviewers. The next part was eagerly awaited and did not disappoint expectations. It was the climax of the trilogy The Witcher 3: Wild Huntwhich premiered in 2015.
On the 15th anniversary of the release of the first part of the game, the studio CD Projekt RED officially announced that the project previously known as “Canis Majoris” is actually a complete remake of the first part of The Witcher from 2007. What do we know about production?
- The game will be built using Unreal Engine 5 – this means it will have a modern audiovisual setting;
- The remake is being developed by Polish studio Fool’s Theory, which is partly made up of veterans who have co-developed games in the series;
- The game is in very early stages of production and The makers have no intention of rushingto release the highest quality product.

We want to get it right, so please be patient – it will take some time before we can share the details.
On the official Witcher series website, Adam Badowski writes:
The Witcher is the game that started it all for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we ever played and it was a big moment for us at the time. We’re going back and rebuilding the game for the next generation of players to experience.
Eurogamer revealed in an interview with Geralt’s English voice, Doug Cockle, that the creators had not contacted him about the game. However, that doesn’t mean the actor won’t be involved. Maybe it’s just too early for that.
