This makes it difficult for amateur bakers to compete! In the second round, according to his notes, they had to complete a spinach-flavored technical challenge and make twelve identical-looking moss cupcakes in one hour. But Josef’s life story can also be inspiring for amateur bakers.
He grew up as one of four siblings in a small village, carrying sacks of seeds to a farm. A few years later he was already working in London, surrounded by the incredible luxury of billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed. And even the marshal’s album full of photos amazes! Most of them are not the same Josef that Zdeněk Chlopčík (66) liked to say in StarDance that he had a huge body mass. The thin and short-cut confectioner is hardly recognizable in them! There are currently only ten of the best left in the Bake the Whole Country III competition. You can see who will be leaving the show next in order on Saturday from 8:10 p.m. on Czech television.
Pastry chef Maršálek admitted: Participants from Peč all over the country copied me!
How he came to England
At first, the marshal didn’t really want to leave the Czech Republic. “I just started studying at a private hotel management school in Prague and it cost me around 80,000 crowns every year. And I had about sixteen thousand in my account for four years of work in the Czech Republic…” he described in his autobiographical book Marshal, who eventually went to an agency that invited him to work abroad. And in three days he had two offers! Eventually he was accepted for a job in a five-star hotel in Bath, and at the end of his distance learning course at university he moved to Harrods, a London department store. He worked there for seven years, won the Chef of the Year and Manager of the Year awards consecutively, and even the British Royal Family ordered his desserts! “I became one of the most important figures at Harrods when it came to food,” the pastry chef remembered. But in the end he swapped the rainy English weather for hot India for a year. He only finally returned to Prague in 2018.
