The Polish website Onet reported that representatives of the Polish Catholic Church are warning believers against giving their pets human first names. In their opinion it should be a sin.
According to the Catholic Church, every human name has its patron saint, its history and its specific meaning, Onet wrote. According to the Catechism, giving these names to animals should constitute a grave sin and a defilement of the sacrament of those who bear it.
Therefore, the sin should be based on the violation of God’s second commandment, which prohibits taking God’s name in vain, the Polish servant said.
Most importantly, do not humiliate or insult
Giving a name to a dog, cat or guinea pig can not be that easy, especially when pet owners often want a name that suits their pet and is original at the same time.
“Polish linguists, on the other hand, wonder whether it is appropriate, sensible and particularly tactful for pets to have the same name as, for example, a work colleague or perhaps a neighbor’s child.” “Giving a name should not humiliate or offend anyone,” added another Polish server, Super Express, was added.
