TRABZON – Ramis Uzun, who served as the chairman of Beşikdüzü, the only municipality of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Trabzon, announced that he resigned from his party due to the nomination of Cahit Erdem in the March 31 local elections.
Ramis Uzun, who won Beşikdüzü Municipality with 60.55 percent of the vote for the CHP in the 2019 local elections, did not take part in the primary election to determine his party’s mayoral candidate last week. Cahit Erdem, who received 229 votes in the primary elections, with candidates Mehmet Yıldızlar receiving 133 votes, Şakir Yenigün 115 votes, Ekrem Sezgin 33 votes and Ozan Karagöz 31 votes, was declared the CHP’s Beşikdüzü mayoral candidate.
Ramis Uzun announced today with a sharp statement to the Büyükliman journalists’ association that he has resigned from his party after he did not take part in the primary election last week and there was no public opinion poll between him and the candidate in the primary election.
“Appointment made by a biased organization”
Stating that he took over Beşikdüzü as the most indebted municipality in Turkey compared to the population, with a debt of 118 million TL in 2019, Uzun said that although they had great difficulties in the first three years, they managed to manage all districts and Villages have been provided with support by the Istanbul Municipality, the City of Beylikdüzü and other sister municipalities. He said that this was the case.
Uzun explained that he will be a CHP candidate again in the local elections on March 31: “With the decision of our headquarters, a pre-selection of 5 candidates will be carried out and a satisfaction survey will be carried out. I saw that the appointment was made without a satisfaction survey and without informing me. Biased provinces and districts.” “The appointment made due to the imposition of our organization without even holding a primary election and without conducting a public survey is unacceptable,” he said.
“You said there would be a primary and I didn’t participate?”
Stating that the appointment was a great disrespect to the party members and the public, Uzun said: “You told me there would be a primary but I didn’t participate? You said there would be a public poll between you and the candidate who would emerge from the primary, but did I say no? Without all this, our members were elected with only 35 percent.” “The person whom the rest did not accept was declared the candidate through various tricks. “This situation is not acceptable,” he said.
Uzun described the appointment of Cahit Erdem as candidate as “a conspiracy against me and our people” and announced his departure from his party, saying: “I condemn this conspiracy against me, our members and our people and am resigning from the Republican Party “People’s Party, of which I am honored to be a member.”
SUPPORT MEMBERSHIPS AND MARKET CARD CLAIM
Against the background of Uzun’s words that “he was declared a candidate through various tricks”, it was alleged that Cahit Erdem recruited many non-party members to vote for him and also distributed grocery shopping cards to members to strengthen his candidacy the local elections. On the other hand, it is known that the CHP district organization has long had a disagreement with Ramis Uzun and that they want him not to run.
