Luke Humphries told the press conference on Wednesday evening after his final victory at the Darts World Championship how he wants to celebrate becoming world champion. “I’m going straight to the bar at my hotel. I love water,” Humphries laughed with his “healthy” image. The new world champion is one of the few darts players who lives off water and is aware of his eating and drinking habits.
“I can’t find the words to express what this World Cup title means to me,” Humphries said at the post-match press conference. “Luke is an incredible and talented player. When I was down 2-4, he missed the doubles for a 5-2 lead, whereupon I hit double 14 and won the set. If Luke had won the set and made it 5:2, it would probably have become even more difficult. I have improved enormously, especially mentally. My whole family helped me in all areas and made me a more well-rounded player.”
“And now? Straight to the bar of my hotel. I don’t know what I’ll drink first. What’s my favorite drink? (dry) Um, I love water. Especially this body of water,” he winked at the sponsored bottle of Aqua Libra in front of him to. “I know it’s not exactly rock ‘n’ roll, but I don’t think there are many people who think I’m rock ‘n’ roll. I’ll leave that to their imagination.”
A whopping 500,000 pounds (576,300 euros) were reserved for Humphries. Littler, 16, received a check for £200,000.
