Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanese Shiite armed group, warned Israel on Wednesday against starting a war against Lebanon.
The deputy chairman of the Hamas politburo, Saleh Aruri, was reportedly killed a day earlier in a drone strike on the office of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in a Hezbollah-controlled suburb of Beirut.
Although Israel has not officially claimed responsibility for the attack, it is believed that Israelis were behind it.
“If the enemy (Israel) thinks of waging war against Lebanon, we will fight without restraint, without rules, without restrictions,” the Hezbollah leader said in his speech. “We are not afraid of war.”
Nasralla repeated Hezbollah’s threats made on Tuesday and announced that the liquidation of Aruri was a “great and dangerous crime” that “will not go unpunished.”
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari previously said, without commenting directly on Aruri’s liquidation, that the army was “prepared for any scenario.”
Aruri is the highest-ranking Hamas official eliminated since the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel, when terrorists killed 1,200 civilians and took about 240 hostages.
He was one of the founders of Hamas’s military wing and directed the group’s terrorist activities in the West Bank.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to be eliminated before the October 7 massacre.
There are fears that this attack could lead to an escalation of hostilities in the Middle East.
