Dobele’s “Tenax” unit was successful in Sunday’s Baltic Handball League match, while “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA failed in another match. The handball players from Dobele defeated “Granitas-Karys” from Kaunas with the score 24:21 (11:10) on their field.
For the home team, Nikita Panchenko was the top scorer with six goals, while Krister Plume and Richard Juzup scored five and four goals respectively. Modest Štarolis scored nine goals for the Kaunas team.
In another game, “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA lost away against the Estonian team “Viljandi” with 20:27 (13:11). Arza Brunis Butans scored five goals for the visitors, while Kristiāns Ingus Jonuška and Krists Vidzis beat the opposing goalkeeper four times each. In the “Viljandi” unit, Hendriks Koks stood out with eight accurate shots and Andriy Basarab scored seven goals.
Dobele’s “Tenax” is in second place with 13 points from ten games, while “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA is in last place with no points in the eight-team competition. Eight teams will compete in the Baltic League this season, two of which are representatives of Latvia, three Lithuanian teams (Vilnius “Šviesa”, Kaunas “Granitas-Karys” and Klaipėda “Dragūnas”) and three Estonian teams (Pelvas “Serviti”, “ Viljandi” and “Mistra”).
In the main tournament, each team plays two games against each other, the top two teams qualify for the Final Four tournament and the seventh and eighth place winners at the end of the competition. In the quarter-finals, the 3rd to 6th places in the main tournament fight, and the winners who move on to the final tournament are determined in a total of two games.
Last season the Dobelniks were fourth, but “ASK Zemessardze”/LSPA did not make it to the playoffs. “Serviti” from Pelva became champions and defeated “Viljandi” in the final with 27:24.
